Deanery approval of MTI placements


The details of all new MTI posts must be approved by the postgraduate deanery for the region using the MTI Deanery approval form. It should confirm that the post:

  • Does not disadvantage UK trainees or adversely affect the training of existing trainees in the location
  • Provides sufficient educational and training content
  • The post is funded to an appropriate level.


Approval can only be given by the authorised signatories listed on our website.


Deanery approval is valid for six months. The MTI placement must start within those six months. If a placement is scheduled to start after the six months the post will need to be re-approved.

Deanery’s aim to respond to approval forms within 10 working days of receipt.


All transfers and extensions of any length must also be approved by the deanery.
